VETERINARY CLINICS IN SPAIN

There are over 6,000 Veterinarian Clinics in Spain catering to our nearly 17 million pets.  With many Expatriates living in Spain with their pets, it is not surprising that many Expat Veterinarians have come to Spain to seek a life in the sun and establish their own English Veterinarian Services.  Spanish Veterinary Services are of a qualified and high standard and they are all regulated.

Many Spanish Veterinary Clinics do speak English, however, this can often depend on what area in Spain you are living in.  A large number of Vets are unbranded and just come under the name of Clinica Veterinario and don’t have a business name as they may be the only Veterinary Clinic in that specific area of Spain,  local village or town.

There are also networks of Veterinarians under a brand name or a franchise business and they are often found in some of the bigger towns and cities.  These networks can sometimes offer a better variety of services and offer a collective and uniform pricing structure  for animal and pet services.

As these Veterinarians are under a franchise you may find your local vet, who only has the one outlet, may care more for you and your pet as they are locals, and charge less than some of the franchised veterinary outlets. 

CAN I USE ANY VET IN SPAIN?

With a Protectapet Pet Healthcare Plan we understand that it is not just about your pet.  We give you the freedom to choose which veterinarian you wish to see or use in Spain or Europe, one that you or your pet are most comfortable with.  There are no exclusions as to which vet you can see or use for treatment and there are no deductions made from your claim for using a particular vet.  You can also change your vet at any time.

DOES THIS INCLUDE SPECIALISED VETERINARY HOSPITALS AND CLINICS IN SPAIN?

Yes!  Protectapet are more concerned that your pet is treated promptly, properly and receives the best of care that you believe you can find, even if you must travel long distances from your home to see the vet of your preference.

ARE THERE ANY DEDUCTABLES FROM USING ANY VETS IN SPAIN WITH A PROTECTAPET PET HEALTHCARE PLAN?

No! We will not deduct anything from your claim because of the Vet you have decided to use.  There may be other deductions such as for your first excess when you submit your claim to us, but not as a direct result of using a specific vet.

DO ALL PET INSURANCES ALLOW FOR ANY CHOICE OF VETS ON THEIR POLICIES?

No! they don’t.

When choosing a Pet Insurance from other pet insurance providers in Spain, be aware that most will provide you with a list of specific vets you can use.  This is because they have deals with these vets to keep their costs down, rather than give you the option to provide the best care for your pet at the vet of your choice.

Others will apply deductibles or limit you to a maximum repayment of 80% or less of any claim you make for not using one of their specified vets. We would always recommend that you check your policy terms and conditions for this as insurance agents are often tied to a specific insurance company and may not provide you with that information unless you ask for it.

CAN I USE ANY VET IN EUROPE?

With our Protectapet European Travel Cover option, you are covered anywhere in Europe for accidental and emergency treatment up to the value specified on your policy.

Other pet insurance products based in Spain do not cover European Vets or provide an option for travelling in Europe with your pet, if you wanted to take them on holiday or a returning to your home country for a break.

USE OUR  VET LOCATOR TO FIND A VET NEAR YOU

Protectapet have been updating their Vet database for nearly 20 years.  As the first company to provide Pet Healthcare Products and Plans in Spain we have correlated a list of Vets that are often used by our pet parents and we have dealt with many of them for our customer claims.  We have most of them on our system and occasionally you may use a Vet in your local village or town that is not listed yet.

We would encourage you to let your Vet know that there is a free Vet registration form on our website that they can fill in.

Even if you make a claim with a Vet that is not on our Veterinary Database, we will automatically contact them and add their details so that other people can find them if needed.
